The committee for the Friends For Charlie Harb are busy working on the 3rd annual golf tournament to raise money to help Charlie with his medical expenses. Charlie graduated from high school and in 1980 moved to the San Diego area. Attending San Diego State.
In 1986 Charlie joined the Allen's Alley family. Over the many years of working there, he became involved in community projects such as Little League team sponsorships, the downtown merchants association, and the Chamber of Commerce .
Charlie says, “The customers at the “Alley” literally began to feel like family members. I was lucky to part of it and would never really call going to the cafe "work." I felt that I was going to visit family and friends on a daily basis”.
In August of 2008, diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that spread to the bones in his lower back and right shoulder. It was the most devastating news he had ever heard, giving him about a year to live.
As a result of months of severe headaches from August of 2009 to December of 2009, the medical professionals believe they detected nodules in the head and atypical cells in the spinal fluid that shows the possibility the cancer may have spread to those areas. When detected, they felt that he now had 6 months to a year to live. So far, MRI's of the brain and CT scans of the lung and bones show the cancer is stable.
The support and prayers from the Allen’s Alley Café restaurant family, for his wife Maha, and daughters, Sabrina and Dunya brings hope that one day research will find a cure for this awful illness.
